About the Sustainability Plan

Orangeburg County has potential for economic growth, and leaders from around the county are working to ensure that this growth meets the community’s needs. The Sustainability Plan will create a multijurisdictional framework for guiding and investing in Orangeburg County growth over the next 20 years. The Sustainability Plan will identify targeted areas to support growth, infrastructure needed to serve growth areas, and the roles of partner agencies and organizations.
The Sustainability Plan will be informed by several components:

  • Public engagement and feedback, including from the Smart Growth Summit;

  • Analysis of existing conditions & future growth and infrastructure needs; and

  • Cost of land use study.

Ultimately, the Sustainability Plan will identify long-term priorities for growth in Orangeburg County, develop guiding principles and a framework for sustainable growth, and help set funding priorities for future public facilities and services.
